Switching to EVs in India

Transportation is flipping the switch!

With market awareness growing about electric vehicles and increased electrification of the grid across India on the back of initiatives from the Government and private players in the market like ChargeZone, the sustainable transportation wave is picking up momentum.

With new players in the market looking to swap their vehicles for an EV alternative, the switch is coming thick and fast. The need to grow and change your mobility solutions has long come but with the mainstream finally accepting this change, the options on the market can suit all the needs that you may have.

While initially a heavier investment than conventional fuel source cars, over the life of the vehicle, the fuel costs usually mean that the finances work out over a longer period of consideration. However, the choice of vehicle too makes a bit of a difference taking into account your transport patterns.

Here, we explore some options that are on the market and may be the perfect consideration if you're looking to make the switch.

Options for Hatchbacks:

For those looking for a more economical option, the Tata Tiago EV has been a popular option. Starting at 8.69 Lakhs, the Tiago has a standard 19.2 kWh battery allowing for a range of 180 km. A different variant also offers a 24 kWh battery, giving the consumer a larger range of 230 km.

The Citroen eC3 is also an option that one can consider for an improved range. With a 29.2 kWh battery, the eC3 offers 320 km of range on a full charge and starts the range at 11.61 Lakhs.

Compact Options:

The MG Comet is another option that users may consider for shorter commutes. Offering a two seater alternative more suited to quick commute, the Comet holds a 17.3 kWh battery giving it a range of about 200 km which seems to be the perfect option for drivers around the city.

SUV Options:

The Tata Nexon EV 2023 has recently been launched has gained popularity in the Indian market due to its impressive features and affordability. With the 2023 version starting at 14.74 Lakhs, it boasts a 30 kWh battery allowing a total range of 325 kilometers on a full charge. While not yet competitive with conventional fuel vehicles on range, the Nexon presents a great alternative for city driving.

The Mahindra XUV 400 Electric is another option available to those looking for a switch into that category. Starting from 15.99 Lakh, the XUV 400 Electric holds anywhere in between 34.5 kWh batteries to 39.4 kWh batteries depending on the variant allowing for a range of anywhere in between 375 to 456 kilometers.

The larger range presents itself as a better option for longer commutes. However, this would also naturally mean that the choice to buy this option would be a commitment that one must make after putting thought into the process.

Charging Ecosystem

With several charging stations emerging across urban touchpoints, the EV ecosystem is undoubtedly seeing growth that end consumers can look to make the most of. With the charging ecosystem making headway in the country and showing clear signs of emerging, the electric vehicle trends in the country are bound to surge upward.

With companies like ChargeZone making the move to electrify the grid and offering solutions for the charging ecosystem, EV adoption in the country is bound to see some tangible growth in the years to come.

This presents itself as a great opportunity for emerging entrepreneurs. With the sector set to see large scale activation, the time is rife for investment.
